The Oscoda area is truly an outdoorsman’s paradise. The AuSable River is one the country’s premier trout streams and is home to an exceptional salmon and steelhead run in the fall. The steelhead and trout fishing is equally fabulous in the spring and Lake Huron offers great salmon, walleye and perch fishing. Inland fishing for bass and pike is also exceptional on many of the area lakes. Pier fishing at the mouth off the river during runs is also popular. The AuSable is also one of the better canoeing rivers in Michigan.

Hunters will enjoy the beauty of the Huron National Forest and the whitetail deer, rabbits and partridge that inhabit it. In the spring turkey hunters do well in the area.

Oscoda is a great place to start your fall color tour. Viewing the color from the River Queen of Oscoda Paddlewheel is exceptional. It is the only Paddlewheel river boat of its kind in the north. Anytime of year it’s a pleasant trip.

Snowmobilers are close to the miles of groomed trails and this area doesn’t lack for snow. Cross country skiers will enjoy the panoramic wilderness.
